& what started amor fati
I have loved to cook and entertain for as long as I can remember. I have a distinct memory of being allowed to season and cook shrimp for New Year’s Eve when I was 10. I fell in love with experiencing all of my senses come to life, the colors of the spices, the smells and sizzles, ever changing, and the delish result. I recall from my childhood mixing mud, grass, flowers and plants to make “soup” for my sisters. Eventually I graduated to actually making dinner for the family and got creative with my after school snacks. During the Covid quarantine, I spent my days at home cooking, building my inventory of fun kitchen gadgets, and watching videos of new techniques and flavor combinations.
I also love to travel which goes hand in hand with being a foodie. My dream would be something in the spirit of what Anthony Bourdain did — traveling the world, meeting people, experiencing cultures, and eating delicious food. I am also very extroverted and love to socialize. My Mom called me a “ham” when I was little which feels very fitting for a multitude of reasons.
I didn’t go to college because I knew I needed time to try out a variety of things, I’m someone who loves a lot of different things and prefers hands on learning. Therefore, I have an extensive work background. A few of my favorites have been; bartending, working at farmers markets, landscaping, mucking horse stalls, and au pairing for a family in Italy. I’m most recently working back of house at a Polish restaurant making pierogi. This feels like realized destiny as a slavic girl from Pittsburgh.
Amor Fati came from a combination of all the things I love; shopping, cooking, and hosting. (I have even started to love cleaning.) I’m an oldest daughter and being the boss all the time sounds amazing. Being a sister and working in the restaurant industry have taught me how to take care of people by seeing many needs and then meeting them without anyone having to ask.
I have two little sisters who are my world, they are both uniquely creative and wickedly smart. They inspire me to work hard and do the things I love. My Mom is a huge supporter and my go-to for all things logistical and “get-her-done”. My boyfriend, Alex, is my best friend, the best sous chef, and the funniest, most handsome man in the world.
Many blessing to you all and thank you for reading this if you made it this far.
